i was really excited to find out about mine today and about the programs available to scholars as well as the money, as that was a HUGE concern of mine as I wasn't sure how much finaid i'd get. i was SO impressed by how they made references to my essay and the rigor of my school in my acceptance letter! I'm also really psyched about the study abroad and extra close relationship with faculty.
anyone have any personal experience with this? i'd love to hear about it. i'll also check the other threads but i'd also be excited to meet other scholars.

congratulations. can I ask how much the scholarship is? Isn't there another one that is less money that the rest of us can hope for?

the marquis is 16k or full grant to meet need (every year)
trustees get 8k or full grant to meet need (every year)
i'm not sure if there are special programs for trustees, but in the end your need will be totally met by grants so you may get the same amount of money
good luck!

Congratulations! You must be so excited. Since you got the letter so quickly, are you located in the Philly area or even closer to Easton? I have a friend waiting to hear...

thanks! i actually only live about 30 minutes away. i live in central jersey route 78 is really close. so i'm sure it didn't take that long to get here. good luck for your friend!

I am happy to report that I heard today that I was named a Marquis Scholar!!! Are you guys going to one of the Marquis student days? I am going on April 2d. Congrats to all!

congratulations. where are you located?

D rec'd Marquis yesterday. -Baltimore.

I am near Philly.

Fellow CCers:

I just wish to congratulate our newest Marquis Scholars on their acceptances into Lafayette. That is an accomplishment to be quite proud of!

I received my Marquis Scholar letter today! I think I'll be going on April 2nd (like danalynne).

Well, the luck of the Irish was upon us today when D was named a Marquis Scholar. Yep, got the package in the mail today. We are overjoyed to say the least.

It was so nice how they personalized the acceptance for her.

Congrats to everyone. Not sure which day we will attend the accepted students day.

I think I'm going on the 2nd, too, but I would really rather go on a weekend so I could try and get someone to house me for the night and check out the social scene.

domestican,

FYI, overnights are scheduled Sunday through Thursday nights ONLY. Lafayette is unable to accommodate requests for Fridays and Saturdays.

However, there is nothing stopping you from "unofficially" staying overnight at any time if someone was willing to house you.

hey i got the scholarship too!

so justin, how would one go about scheduling one of these unofficial visits, considering one would not know any current students?

icsmatt,

I was simply responding to domestican's idea. I agree with you that it would be difficult to schedule an "unofficial visit", but I guess it's possible for an accepted student to have friends at the college who might be willing to host him/her.

Ah alright, thanks Justin. That's too bad really, because its nice to be able to see people in as well as outside of the academic environment. I guess I'll just have to be so charismatic that some guy (ideally, it'd be an attractive female, but that's wishful thinking) will just HAVE to have me hang with him and his bros for the night.

i got the marquis scholarship too! i was wondering though...when do we find out exactly how much we are going to receive?

i was planning to go on one of the visiting days (i'm from Long Island and due to logistics-APs, break, traffic, life-it's hard for me to get there more than once) is it better to schedule an overnight?
