Somebody Please Help. I want to major in CS i’ve been admitted to Maryland’s CS program but to General Sciences in UW. I know seattles’s CS program is better but I’ve heard its hard to get into CS. I am an international student from Pakistan and have done Alevels I have 3 A’s in pre enginneeing subjects. The plus side of seattle is i’ll get 1 years worth or credits but at maryland i’ll only get one semester. Also living in Seattle is easy for me.
Somebody Please tell me if its worth the risk. going to seattle
It’s hard to get into CS at all top schools. If you are willing to put in the work for it, go to UW. Of courses, if you don’t, that’s one less competition for the others. It’s not a lottery if you get in or not; it all depends on how well you do. If you are that scared, Maryland is still pretty good.
70% general science students never make it to CS. In addition, umd CS is absolutely tops, with its own college. I really don’t think there’s a reason to take the risk you wouldn’t get into your major at udubb
Personally, I’d go to UW. Getting into your desired major is a much easier task than getting a job with visa sponsorship after college, and UW is located in a much more opportune area of the country.
And even if you didn’t gain admission to the CS major, there’s plenty of other computing-related majors and all of the “core” CS classes are open to non-majors or have a mirror-course for non-majors available.
??? The East Coast/DC area isn’t exactly economically depressed. Why do you think Seattle is better than the East Coast right now for tech jobs?
And UMD CS grads work all over.
If this was UW vs. a generic flagship, I may agree with you, but UMD CS is up there as well.
Which makes this more of a toss-up. In this case, go with your gut or what’s cheapest.
