Hello everyone,
I am an International undergraduate transfer student pursuing Electrical engineering. I have been admitted into the University of Maryland,College park and Purdue university, West lafayette. I am torn between these two as both have a good engineering school. Which has a better electrical program?
My priority is to work after completing my undergraduate BS. Which university has better job opportunities? I heard Maryland is surrounded by many companies and industries and has better job opportuinites. Is it true?
I am not into research. Also, I am not too worried about the cost difference. Which university has a better reputation for electrical? Thank you for taking your time.
Both colleges are great in EE. It is true that U. of MD is surrounded by companies with job offers. Yet as an international student you may consider many jobs might need clearance and U.S. citizenship around D.C area. (which is UMD area.) But that might be true in general.
Don’t be so sure you are not interested in research. It’s where you get to do the hands-on fun stuff of building/making things, using really cool equipment and actually apply what you have learned – research in engineering does not look anything like research for humanities.
While they are both excellent schools, there is no contest in my mind…go for Maryland! Have you read a similar thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-maryland-college-park/1891452-university-of-maryland-vs-university-of-minnesota.html#latest
@maryversity I have read the thread. My parents are urging me to join Purdue since it is well recognised. They believe Maryland is not popular like Purdue. Is it true ? Whereas some of my friends suggested me that job opportunities in Maryland are more. Can you enlighten?
Not at all. In fact, Maryland may be more well recognized.
Maryland is in a better location for jobs and life, that’s for sure. Washington D.C is one of my favorite cities in the world.
