Marymount Manhattan Questions

Hi all,

My daughter was recently accepted to Marymount’s BA in theater arts, with a minor in musical theater. She is beyond thrilled, to say the least! Was just wondering if anyone has any input on the program, especially performance opportunities. Other schools have guaranteed casting. While I know that’s not how the real world works, it is nice knowing that your child will be cast so they may improve and learn! If there are too ma ny kids in the program, opportunities to perform will be limited. Also, while I am thrilled that she will have daily dance classes and a weekly voice lesson, it’s kind of a bummer that she has to take an early bus 5 days a week to her 8 am dance class. I worry about her getting enough sleep, especially during tech weeks when they are up late. I also have questions about the meal program- is there food available on campus at all times/ days of week? With it being such a small school, I wanted to check on that. I noticed the day of auditions that there were no food options in the building we were in all day. Obviously NYC has lots of options, but it’s cost prohibitive to buy meals out! Like I said, she is really excited about the program and her acceptance, but I am just trying to gather some more info. Thanks all!

Funny - we were there yesterday and I left with all the same questions! Particularly about the dining options. They mentioned the convenience store in the dorm, but that was about it. I also wondered about performance opportunities, because with so few mainstage shows, how are all those kids (I think they said 50 a year? Did I hear that wrong?) going to be doing any stage work? They talked about student directed shows - but maybe there are 8 of them? I wonder if you’d get more responses in the musical theater forum - perhaps some people have had those questions answered.

Even better! Post your questions here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/marymount-manhattan-college-mt/

Thanks all! Will post there:)
