<p>they use a pig with wings as the mascot. they had a video up like last spring (iidk) about what exactly the students thought a hogger was. I assume it derives from the school’s agricultural…heritage lol</p>
<p>The school was founded as a place where all deserving students could get a solid education (not just the wealthy elite who went to Andover, Exeter, Deerfield, etc.). Scholarships were given to many students from farming families - the school itself had pigs and students had to help work on the farm…hence, “Hoggers”.</p>
<p>Check your history – Deerfield was not originally founded for the “elite” and was actually a quasi-public school until Frank Boyden came there in 1901.</p>
