Mascots

Here's Hotchkiss's 'fearsome' bearcat: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_CrjD8Ifx8dw/S6El7YrPMSI/AAAAAAAAEcc/j8eliPGzdJU/s400/Bearcat.jpg

Post what you want on mascots. Lists, why they're good for certain schools, etc.

That thing is adorable! x3

I know that the SPS mascot is pelican. I doubt I’ll hear kids at sporting events yelling, “GO PELICANS! PELICANS FTW!!” Another school with an “unusual” mascot is Concord Academy. The Concord Academy mascot is a chameleon…

PA has Gunga the Gorilla.

Taft= Rhinos
NMH= Hoggers
Exeter= Lion Rampant
Emma Willard= Jesters

“NMH= Hoggers” <---- ??? what is a Hogger ? ???

they use a pig with wings as the mascot. they had a video up like last spring (iidk) about what exactly the students thought a hogger was. I assume it derives from the school’s agricultural…heritage lol

The school was founded as a place where all deserving students could get a solid education (not just the wealthy elite who went to Andover, Exeter, Deerfield, etc.). Scholarships were given to many students from farming families - the school itself had pigs and students had to help work on the farm…hence, “Hoggers”.

Check your history – Deerfield was not originally founded for the “elite” and was actually a quasi-public school until Frank Boyden came there in 1901.

Avon Old Farms – Winged Beavers (pronounced Win-ged Beavers).

[GO ZEBRAS](http://www.digital-photo-web.com/image-files/zebra-wild-horse.jpg)

Hmm…
Peddie = falcons
And yeah I have to agree that chameleon for Concord (or any school) is pretty weird

I stand corrected.

Lion rampant!

Because so many NE prep schools have such unimaginative mascot names like the Big [fill in your favor color], it is always fun and refreshing to find some schools with extremely unique mascot names. Here are a few such schools, in addition to the few already mentioned above:

Miss Porter’s Fighting Daisies
Westminister Martlets
Choate Boars
