Hello,
I am currently about to finish my bachelor’s in Applied and Computational Mathematics as well as with Applied Statistics and Data Analysis. I am currently in discussions with an acceptance officer to Columbia’s Masters Program in Systems engineering. I am wondering is it logical to do this. I do not have a formal engineering degree, and am wondering what is the job market like for someone who will have my bachelors degree as well as a masters in systems engineering.
I originally was thinking about doing a masters in operation research, but have talked to GE, Lockheed Martin, and some other recruiters who wanted to hire me and stated they do not see any difference in Masters degrees in applied statistics, systems engineering, and operation research, if the path you choose was optimization or modeling heavy within those degrees.
My real question is should I pursue a masters in engineering, if I do not have bachelors in it, and if so, what are my real job opportunities if I do so.
