Master List of Music School Acceptances, Fall 2013

Dear All,

I try not to hijack this space for personal messages, but that is just what I am going to do now in lieu of multiple PM responses. It is pretty well known on this forum that my daughter lives in Boston. A few of you have inquired about her well being, given recent events there. She is fine, thank you. She was out of town, nearly 1000 miles away on tour with one of her ensembles that day. I now return you all to the decision thread…

Great to know BassDad.

Congratulations to micaelsousa, who in another thread announces an acceptance with full scolarship and stipend to Carnegie Mellon, for an as yet unspecified major.

Congratulations to MomOf3Stars and daughter, for daughter’s acceptance to MM programs in horn performance at UMass Amherst and Ithaca College, as noted on another thread.

Muted congratulations to CosmicAsininity for an acceptance to USC for a BM in saxophone performance, as noted on another thread. Muted because cost will not permit attendance there.

Wow - what a week for my D! First she found out yesterday that she was invited to live in the music dorm at Florida State, and today she got a call from University of Michigan, telling her she is off the wait list!! And she auditioned for two different degrees, and they told her she could do either one - whichever she would like (VP or VP with teacher certification). She is OVER the moon!! So now she has just a few days to decide which school to attend - ACK!! Any advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated!

Think finances and climate saxlady. Both are excellent music schools.

Congratulations to saxlady and daughter.

Congrats saxlady!!! I know you were eagerly waiting!! Wonderful news

Congratulations saxlady and to your daughter! The wait paid off - YAY!!!

Thank you everyone - she is SOOO excited! And Lorelei, she very much prefers the cold climate - one of her biggest issues with FSU (isn’t that funny - people from the south just don’t understand how anyone could possibly like the snow - I understand, as I was a Southerner for 24 years).

Finances are about the same, so that’s not really an issue - although a scholarship from UMich would have sealed the deal. But thank you again - it was sometimes difficult to read everyone else’s happy news, knowing that my daughter still was waiting. But it gave me the hope that everything would work out in the end for us too…and it did! So, for anyone else out there who is discouraged, don’t lose hope - it could still happen for you too!!

Congratulations to Mainemom44 and son, on son’s acceptances to Eastman, Ithaca, CUNY Queens, USC, Peabody and BU for a BM in oboe performance, as noted on another thread.

Congratulations to ggpenido who reports acceptances to PhD programs in composition at University of California Riverside and University of Montreal, as noted on another thread.

My D just accepted at University of Michigan, BM piano performance. (I guess waiting lists are not a polite fiction after all!).

Congratulations projectthrive and daughter.

Saxlady - DS got the call from Michigan too!!! Piano performance and he is headed there!
(May have seen you in music dorm at FSU if it didn’t work out. )

Congratulations WAstamper and son.

Congratulations WAstamper! I am also going to Michigan for piano performance. Who will your son be studying with?

Yay, WAstamper - I guess patience is the name of the game! And I hadn’t remembered about your S getting into FSU until you mentioned it, but now I remember from my Waitlist thread that I started. The ironic thing is that after my D heard she got into Cawthon (the music dorm at FSU) on Wednesday night, she said, “That’s it! I’m going there - go ahead and pay the enrollment deposit!” So I literally was about to click on the fee payment, when she said, “Wait!! What if UMich calls tomorrow??” So, I stopped and didn’t complete it. And UMich DID call the next day. Bizarre, eh (as they say in my neck of the woods)?

Thank you everyone. DS is very excited.

Piano177 - he is still hashing out teacher details. His first choice was full. Will PM you. I should get him on here as I have noticed at least one other piano perf major going to Michigan on another thread.

Saxlady - has your DD decided??
