Congratulations to pianolover's daughter for a decision to attend Temple University in pursuit of a BM in piano Performance.

My D will attend Oberlin as a VP major.

ProMusician - Congrats to you and your daughter! My son (Comp major) is very happy at Oberlin.

^Thanks! She was quite focused on her dream school, but our heads were turned when she made it past the Rice pre-screening…in the end, she went with her first choice. Good luck to everyone, especially those who are traveling this weekend!

P.S. Maybe our kids will meet each other next year-Oberlin is a really special place!

Congratulations, ProMusician and D! Happy for you. Sigh. Oberlin was my son’s first choice years ago. Financial considerations directed him eslewhere (and he’s been very happy), but, like your D, Oberlin was his dream school. Very hard to turn down. All the best! :)

Congratulations, ProMusician and daughter.

My daughter graduated from Oberlin almost four years ago. She really loved her years there. If your daughter has interest, tell her to check out the dining and housing co-ops. One of the welcome but entirely unanticipated experiences my daughter had through the Oberlin Student Co-op Association was working her way up to being the head cook in charge of a crew that prepared meals for 80 a few times a week. We are talking full course meals here, complete with hot fresh bread baked from scratch, not just cereal and cold cuts. Students handle the whole process, from setting the budget to purchasing the ingredients (mostly from local sources), to the prep work, cooking, serving and clean-up. Everyone has a job somewhere along the line.

If daughter were not doing music full time, she could be cooking for a living. In fact, she did that as a day job before she started getting enough gigs to support herself with the music.

ProMusician - they probably will. Second BassDad on the Co-op system which is residential, dining or both. My son has spent his first year in a dorm with a dining hall attached. Next year, he will likely do another dorm, but is considering a Co-op for food.

Thanks for the good wishes-everyone is so nice here! Had no idea about the Co-op system, it sounds great and we will definitely look into that when the time comes. For now, competitions, performances and HS musicals are on the agenda, just trying to get through the senior-itis filled days-LOL!

My daughter is a first year VP major at Oberlin now and loves it!

Well, after a lot of discussion, S has decided to accept his offer to Westminster Choir College (voice performance). He passed all of his prescreens, but realized that Westminster was his #1 choice and didn’t want to spend the $ to travel to more auditions. He will be studying with Dr. Christopher Arneson. And his dad and I couldn’t be more relieved that our last child is finished (until the grad school search!)

^Congratulations on his big decision, megpmom! That’s wonderful news. It sounds like he made a good choice for himself – while sparing you and his dad some expense! All the best to you and to him. :)

Thanks Rosie26! Our daughters will probably meet next year-mine can’t wait until HS is over…LOL!

Congratulations to megpmom and son.

Congrats, Megpmom!

Congrats, Megpmom! Nice to have the process over early.

Daughter will attend New England Conservatory for MM in Contemporary Improvisation, primary instrument double bass, although she also sings and plays electric bass, banjo, ukulele and viola da gamba.

^Congratulations, BassDad!

Warmest congratulations to you and your daughter, BassDad! And thank you for all you do.

Very, very awsome, BassDad!! Congrats!
