I think this is so great. This building housed many many tormented souls (mentally ill) over the years, and horrible abuses occurred here till the late sixties, when there was a raising of consciousness about the human rights of the mentally handicapped. Repurposing Bryce to make it a home for the arts and its beauty is deeply satisfying to me.

For those of you new to UA, this building is on about 250 acres of land adjacent to the UA campus, that UA bought recently. If you ever get a chance, visit this property. It is going to be a very special addition to campus when it is fully transformed by redevelopment. The beautiful white building in the center of this property is the one that will be renovated and expanded with the addition of a performing arts center.

Here is another site with pictures from the past. I read some time that Bryce was at point second only to the Vatican in size of a building, or was it in size of a hospital?

<a href=“Wyatt vs. Stickney - YouTube”>Wyatt vs. Stickney - YouTube; interesting vid about the lawsuit that ended the reign of terror for the mentally infirm.

And lastly, a great vid showing the drive up the beautiful entrance to Bryce Mansion:

This is going to also serve as a new welcoming center for all UA visitors, guests. Looks like something from the movies about the Old South eh?
