Masters in Finance - Chances please?

<p>Hey guys,</p>

<p>I was wondering if you guys could possibly tell me my chances of getting into Masters in Finance...</p>

<p>I am applying to </p>

<p>Georgia State
Vanderbilt
Rochest IT
Illinois IT
Pace Uni
Arizona
Claremont (MFE)</p>

<p>Purdue</p>

<p>My GPA is low due to a bad second year (buncha D's and 2 F's) ... between 2.8-3.0ish in USA GPA terms... I did my undergrad from a Canadian University in Mechanical Engineering. But my last year is pretty amazing...around 3.7+ for my 4th year. Huge upward trend</p>

<p>Also I have extensive work experience since I got co-op and internships a lot of places... General Motors, Exxon Mobil, Siemens, Ford. Almost 2 years total experience.</p>

<p>In addition I have published as an undergraduate student extensively on INDEPENDENT research projects. My paper on Computational Fluid Dynamics was chosen as Top 5 in the World by American Society of Mechanical Engineers and I am up for the Young Engineer Paper award 2009. I have published a paper in a NASA conference proceedings, in SAE and am currently doing research in materials engineering.</p>

<p>I want to do Phd eventually..but I want to use Masters in Finance degree to super boost my GPA to overshadow my undergrad GPA so I can get into a good phd school for finance. </p>

<p>I have EPIC Statement of Purpose...EPIC References. </p>

<p>My GRE is 710 Q, 420 V, 5/6 A. I focused on publishing while studying for GRE's so yeah.</p>

<p>What are my chances of getting into those schools?</p>

<p>Dude do you want to do engineering or finance? Make up your mind. Have you retaken your GRE?</p>

<p>I am trying to keep my options open. I am interested in Finance also. </p>

<p>and no, haven’t retaken GRE. I have too much work right now since I am in Phd for Materials engineering at Madison.</p>

<p>If you think your application is going to be competitve, then go ahead and submit your application. I think you get admissions at most places if you pay by yourself, but may not be true at top programs. In my opinion, it is not worth going to the colleges you mentioned. It is better if you do your masters in canada at univ of toronto, get good grades, and then come back for phd.</p>

<p>Lol what makes you think I will get into U of T? haha. It is just as competitive to get into U of T as it will be for any of the top programs in US.</p>

<p>You are applying to top programs here too, aren’t you? And you said you are paying for your masters. Why don’t you consider doing your MS at U of T since you are from Canada? U of T has good program in engineering and finance. What about Waterloo?</p>
