My cousin just graduated from college with a liberal arts major. What are some good schools for K-6 education? She is looking at Bank Street (NYC) and Northeastern. Any comments on these and others in the Northeast you would recommend?

While there may be qualitative differences among Master's programs in elementary education they probably have little relevance to the end result of securing a teaching job and learning how to be a good teacher. These programs are often little more than a hurdle to overcome on the way to state certification and maybe passing the national teacher's exam. Having said this I think one should find the least expensive alternative possible of a grad program in a geographic area where you can live rent free, plan on living in the future or can do a great deal of substitute teaching at a good daily rate.

Hear, hear.

i asked this question a couple months ago and received some good replies if you would like to look in the archives.

just to add one thing, i think if i do pursue a masters in education, i will look into taking either math or physics classes to add to my history major because both subjects are in demand.
