My boy will be graduating this spring with a BS in computer engineering from a well respected Midwestern university. He is very much interested in the Masters of Engineering program specializing robotics. Does anyone have any first hand experience in this program at the University of Maryland

The masters program itself is new, but robotics research and development at Maryland is very well established, well funded and quite exciting! There are two different “centers” - the Maryland Robotics Center http://www.robotics.umd.edu/ and the Institute for Systems Research http://www.isr.umd.edu/.

Some really cool research projects include the Tiny Terps, and the bio-inspired robotics, just to name a few. You should also note that the University of Maryland has neutral buoyancy lab on campus - I believe the only college campus to have this kind of facility! NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center is located in Greenbelt which is about 10-15 minutes from campus, which makes for wonderful access as well (robotic research applications for space).

The person to contact about the Master’s degree is Dr. Gupta

Hope this helps…?

Thanks maryversity. I will forward the info to my boy. He’s a Wolverine right now, maybe a Terp next fall
