Master's of Science and Business? (M.B.S. degree)

I recently found out that my university began offering a graduate program for technical majors that combines business and science. It seems to be a fairly new concept (it was the first I'd heard of it), but it seeks to prepare students to become effective employees in industry, as opposed to many technical graduate programs (especially in pure sciences) that are more academia/research-based. It also seeks to replace the MBA for those with technical knowledge so that graduates can use their scientific background in conjunction with business know-how.

Business courses are taken as well as all graduate courses for the regular technical master's degree. The final thesis is nixed for a business model and proposal for an emerging product the student has a solid knowledge of (and possibly participated in the research for). [I am a little iffy on my accuracy here; I can recheck these facts, but this is what I remember.]

This is all what I gleaned from the presentation, and I might be slightly off. I am not sure of the consistency across schools in terms of curriculum and program set-up either. (I attend Rutgers University - New Brunswick, by the way.)

From a little research, I found the main website: Science Masters > ScienceMasters Home
The more prestigious US schools don't seem to be implementing this program, but I see many state universities with it.

Have you heard of this? What are your opinions? Have you met graduates from these programs and do you feel they are better for it?
Is it better than a regular master's or MBA in terms of engineering majors? Is it still too early to tell?

I know of the PSM. I’ve looked into many of the programs. They are offered by very respectable universities. Don’t let “prestige” fool you.

I am pretty interested in it actually, especially if I could do a 4+1 program at my current school. (which is indeed quite respectable.)

I am simply interested in hearing about it from other perspectives since I know so little.

bump for the sake of curiosity. hope it’s allowed.
