Hello are there any masters programs out there at top schools that have really high acceptance rates?
Some universities post graduate admissions data on their website. For example, here is data for the University of Washington showing number applied and percent admitted by major: https://grad.uw.edu/about-the-graduate-school/statistics-and-reports/admissions-statistics/ The data reveals that some graduate majors admit 90% of applicants, while other majors have admission rates in single digits. The admissions rate is all over the place depending on the major.
You can look up graduate admissions data by major at Cornell University here, and again the rates vary significantly by major: https://tableau.cornell.edu/views/Assessment-Selectivity-Public/Selectivity?:embed=y&:showShareOptions=true&:display_count=no&:showVizHome=no
Petersons dot com has free admissions data for many graduate programs. You will have to look up a particular graduate degree and university, and then click on that to see if admissions data is available or not. For example, you could look up Emory University’s graduate degree in Biochemistry, Cell & Developmental Biology, and discover that 15% of applicants are admitted, and the program has 57 students, with 65% of them female.
@mommyrocks thank you!!!
Why do you want to know this?
@Reddyparent3 Be careful searching for programs based on criteria like acceptance rates. A high acceptance rate doesn’t mean a program is easier to get into. There could be any number of reasons a program has a relatively high acceptance rate. Selection bias can frequently be a factor. In other words, some programs might receive relatively few applications from very strong applicants, i.e., only strong students who know they have good stats and a good chance of being admitted apply in the first place. For such programs, a weaker student wouldn’t be any more likely to be admitted than at any other program.
