Master's vs. Pharmacy

I was hoping people here could give me some advice. I'm in first year of a biochemistry degree. I'm trying to decide whether I should continue with this degree and possibly get a master's eventually or if I should switch into a B.S.pharmacy degree after 2 years or so. I'm guessing that i would finish school around the same time with either of these choices. Is this a fair assumption? (6 years total?) I'm worried that with biochemistry it will be more difficult to get a good, nicely-paying job or career opportunities. I also don't know if a master's is something I could handle. What exactly does it involve and what is it like? I'm really stuck with what I should do and I don't want to be in school for 8 years deciding. I'd really appreciate some advice!!

Do they still have BS pharmacy? I thought nowadays it's only Pharm D. So you need at least 2 years undergrad then 4 years pharmacy school if you get in.

In Calfornia, it's 5-year Pharm D program.

If you get a biochem undergrad degree, you may be interested in medicine as a career. The MCATs are bio, chem, physics, and writing, so you've got two of three in the title of your major (and it'd be reasonable to think that as a science major, you've taken at least one physics and at least one English class). As an MD or DO, you can teach, do clinical work, do research or any combination of those and other things.

Another option, if you don't want to go for an MD or DO (besides the PharmD) would be a career as a PA, it's clinical, but you have less time in school than an MD/DO, and you can do lots of things (research, clinical, teaching, etc.)

That made me LOL

jg22770, pause for a moment and think about what kind of work excites you. Do you like to be in a lab surrounded by scientific equipment and pursuing research projects or do you enjoy interacting with and helping people? The answer can point you in the right direction.

NewEngSocSciman-- I'm almost sure I don't want to do med school because I don't think I could handle how difficult it is and the amount of time studying for so many years. What exactly is a PA?

aiszig--?? hmm.. I don't get it...:(

Bunsenburner-- Unfortunately school rarely excites me. Of course there's always interesting little things every once in a while but then when I go home to study my life away, I start thinking about how much I just want to be done with school and get a good job.

A PharmD Degree is a 4 year professional program (most of them anyways). The BS was phased out and now the PharmD is the only degree awarded now in the US.
