Match Recommendations for Cog Sci / Comp Sci

Hello! I’ve applied to my safeties and reaches and wanted recommendations for match schools. My major interests are cognitive science / computer science / data science and analytics. I’m a black female from ND.

For stats, I have a 4.0 UW GPA, 33 ACT and 1550 SAT. As of senior year I’ve taken 10 AP classes.

ECs: interned at a local tech company and organized some beta testing on their apps. Member of my school’s student leaders group, founder of my school’s livestreaming team. I’m also a member of my school’s Science Olympiad team and a member of NHS.

I don’t qualify for need-based financial aid, but I have a few scholarships and cost isn’t a deciding factor.

I’d prefer to get out of the Midwest and New York schools are a no-go, but anything else is fair game. A school with research opportunities or undergrad projects would be cool.

Edit: As for culture, I’m not very picky but I’d prefer a relatively non-religious school.

If I need to give more info let me know! I’m new to the forums so it’s likely I missed something.

Tufts has a great Cog Sci department…that is what I intend to major in. You have great stats…good luck.

Oooh, Tufts has been on my radar for a while. I’ve heard it’s still difficult to get into - are you a current student?
I’ll take a closer look and might put it on my list.

I’m a freshman. it’s difficult but you have great stats. Black female is a plus too. I love it. It was always a top choice for me. I did a summer program and visited, went to info sessions, followed on social media, did interview and showed a lot of interest…they love interest!

the Cog Sci professors are amazing…I’m ready to declare as my major. The pre major advisors are top notch. Mine will now be my major advisor as well.

Alright, thanks for all the info (and congrats on getting into one of your top choices). I’ll add Tufts to my list then, I may have a fighting chance haha.

good luck!!

“Cost isn’t a deciding factor.”

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, I could retire early. If you could afford an out of state school right now, that might not be true in 4 years. You’ll be surprised how many of those students end up transferring home because of money. Going to an exotic out of state school, unless you have a big scholarship, just isn’t worth the tuition you’re paying to go there. It’s just not.

Don’t worry, I wouldn’t say that if it wasn’t true. I won’t go into detail, but I feel relatively safe making that statement with the scholarships and the preparation my family and I have done.

Plus, the in-state colleges that offer my desired degree are safeties; they’re pretty much auto-admit schools with low tuition costs. I’ve already applied to those. I’m looking for more diverse matches.

Are you averse to attending college in New York State, or only in New York City? If just the latter, note that Vassar claims “the oldest undergraduate cog sci degree-granting program in the world.”
