I'm going to be a junior in high school next year. I want to major in something related to the biological sciences.

I have a 3.71 GPA unweighted and i've taken one AP class in my sophomore year (all freshman/soph classes were GT, btw). I plan to take three next year (calc, comp sci III, and world hist) and 6 in my senior year (latin IV, comparative gov't, bio, chem, english 12, and calc BC).

i took an SAT and got an 1860 or 1890 (cant remember). I'm sortof ****ed and i definitely plan to get 2000+ when i take it again. I still need to take an ACT and definitely a subject test. I can give you some EC's if you want them, but they're not much and I plan to get more under my belt in my junior year.

I have a few colleges that i really would love to go to, but I know they're a reach for me (carnegie mellon, berkeley, stanford (?), etc). I've had some trouble finding colleges that are right in the middle, that would be perfect matches for me. I'm looking for a place that has a good biology/science field, but I don't want a place who's musical/artistic field is crap(im in the marching band and love to play my flute, and I don't want to give that up). I really prefer colleges on the east or west coast, but right now im open to any suggestions. Thanks! :-)

Just so you know, 1860-1890 is considered a good score, CC brainwashes people into believing that

a) Ivy leagues are the only schools worth wanting to go to as a "reach" school
b) anything under 2000 means your stupid

In reality, the Ivy league schools are all very good, but there are about forty other schools that are either better, equally excellent, or almost as good that aren't as ridiculously selective as the Ivies (which are only that selective because of "prestige").

It's not coastal, but the university of michigan is probably a good school to look into. sciences arent necessarily michigan's specialty but they are by no means bad and the michigan marching band is like an amazing college marching band if you wanna do that.

thankx, just_browsing and HauckT. I do realize that an 1860 or so isn't that bad, but I think I have the potential to do better anyway. I kinda screwed up on the math section and if i hadn't missed so many questions I definitely would have gotten a higher score. :-)

Honestly even with 2000+ Stanford and Berkley (OOS) are not realistic. CMU is a realistic reach, but for matches perhaps look at UCSD, Lehigh, Boston College, NYU, Georgia Tech, Michigan, Wake Forest, and maybe Vanderbilt. These are reaches for you now, but probably more matches if you get into the 2000s. GL!

I'd second U Rochester. GREAT music, and strong sciences. Perhaps USC? Again good music, but I don't think you'd be competitive with that SAT score.

I actually live in MD... and i still don't wanna stay in state, despite the fact that college park a is pretty good school, so i know im gonna have a crazy tuition.
