Hello Rising Sun,
I wanted some advice from you. I am applying to MSE PhD programs for fall’11.
My Profile:
UG-(2009) Indian Institute of Technology, Materials Engg.- GPA- 7.1 (10 point scale)
MS-(May 2011) U of Rochester, Material Science program, GPA 3.95
GRE- Q- 800, V-740, AWA- 4.5
Publications:
one as first author in Advanced Materials Research
one conference proceedings (2nd author)-( conference was in India)
2 more papers currently being written up- (2nd author on both- I am writing parts of the manuscript-), One of them is almost done and the 2nd one would be done in 2 weeks- will submit them to JACS or ACS nano…My advisor would say this in the recommendation letter.
LORs: 3 professors in chemical engg., all are aware of my research projects and would give very strong recommendations.

Schools I am Applying to:
Cornell, GaTech, U Penn, UC-SD, UC-SB/UC-LA, UIUC/ Northwestern
How would you rate my chances? With such a profile do I stand a chance at any of the top schools like Berkley or MIT or Stanford- is it even worth applying?
Also, I applied for PhD 2 yrs ago and got rejected from Stanford and Northwestern- Should I avoid applying to them and apply instead to Berkley and UIUC respectively?
