I'm currently a first year, pre-med, human biology major and I don't know whether to continue the 10 series and take Math 10C or go with the suggested 4 year plan and take Math 11 & 11L (statistics). Math 11 & 11L are suggested for my major but if I enroll in them I'll be taking 17 units. Is this too overwhelming? Any suggestions would be helpful!

If you were in Revelle or Roosevelt, you might even have to take 19 units at some point (due to 6 unit writing classes and 5 unit language classes.) Just a thought.

I’m already taking 18 units this quarter, its not too bad. Budget your time and you’ll be fine. Plus, if it feels too overwheling at the beginning, you can alwaya drop a class.

As for taking the math 10C or Stats, check with the med schools you are interesed in. Some require 1 year of calc AND stats, others dont require stats at all.

Thanks but is anyone familiar with the rigor of each course? I’m not very good at math and haven’t been doing well in the 10 series so far. Also I’m not even sure if I want to go to med school. I’m kind of just looking to take the easier course at this point.

I took the math 10 series and am going to take 11 and 11L next quarter… I can tell you a few things:
- 17 units will not be too overwhelming if you are used to the 16/4 classes a quarter…
- …but I have heard that math 11 can be quite tricky and isn’t just your average stats class. it really depends though, do you have a background in stats? AP? if you do, I would say that 11 shouldn’t be so bad especially if it fits in your 4-year plan.
- what I know for sure - 10C is not too bad at all. just keep up with the scheduled assignments, go to section and find someone to help you that is understanding the material. review every week. I didn’t have the greatest professor but made sure to pay attention to all the examples given in class and section, and the final ended up being pretty straightforward. you can do it!
