Can anyone who has been through the math 50H series help? I'm wondering if I should take it... I've already taken multivariable, diff eq, and linear algebra at a local community college. How does that compare to the curriculum and difficulty of the 50H series? Should I take it? Or can I "skip" it? The course description is not very specific ("Unified treatment of multivariable calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations...")

I was in exactly the same situation as you are--having taken those courses at a community college, thinking of skipping 50H. My frosh advisor (a math prof who's no longer at Stanford) strongly recommended against skipping. I didn't skip, and I'm glad I didn't. I got a lot out of 50H.

You're right that the course description is pretty vague. It's actually a little inaccurate. You go into a lot more depth than the normal 50 series does, and in fact cover some completely different math.

I'd recommend you take 50H. I've said quite a bit more on this topic in the "random questions" thread of the 2012 forum, so you might want to read through that also.
