Math and English at Reed

Just popping by to ask current/former students what these programs are like. I have a pretty huge math background and do not plan on taking courses like linear algebra again, so detailed info on the department is a plus. What are topics classes like? Is there a larger university nearby to take grad classes at? What’s REU placement like?
Any info on the English department is welcome, particularly literature creative writing classes! I’m curious what discussions are like, upper level classes, specific professors, and so on.

thanks in advance!

Without speaking about specific classes, I can say with certainty that in both of those fields the courses are demanding and at a high level. Any college department that is among the top 10 producers of future doctorates in a field clearly produces highly trained graduates. (I attended Reed, with a social science major; I later earned a Ph.D.) http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/reed-college/2136106-math-and-english-at-reed.html#latest

I would also love to know the availability of math REUs.
