Math at Rutgers

Is there an undergrad program geared toward pure math? How is the math program? How large are the classes?

There is one undergrad math major at Rutgers, which you can choose to be more pure math or more applied based on what classes you take. The basic requirements are one computer science course (107 or 111), introduction to linear algebra (250), and the Calc I-IV sequence. You then need to take 8 upper level (300/400) courses, of which Advanced Calc I (311) and either Linear Algebra (350) or Intro to Abstract Algebra (351) must be included. So those other 6 courses you must take can be more theoretical based as you seem to be inclined or more applied depending on what you find interesting.

In general, the lower level classes can have a lot of people in them. The Calc classes are typically lecture and recitation based, whereas the more upper level classes are in classrooms with 20-30 people.
