Math Diagnostic Test

Seems like they just sent out the math diagnostic test to us.

Any clues as to what it's like? I'd just like to have an idea before I open it. (Obviously, nothing that the honor code would prohibit, but a hint toward the kinds of things that it entails.)

Its similar ( somewhat easier) to the free-response section on the AP calc BC test.

seeing as I have not officall accepted my spot I have not recieved this test but I was just curious how long of a test it is?

The email says 2 hours for part 1 and 90 minutes for part 2. I haven't opened it yet, so I can't say anything in terms of problems/pages.

ya understandable sounds good thank you

What is this email you speak of?

They send you an email giving you the website where you can find the diagnostic exam.

When do I get it?

You should've gotten it on Monday. If you haven't, which appears to be the case, you can email mathinfo@caltech.edu and ask about it.

halfthelaw, were you accepted off the waitlist? I haven't gotten it yet either, coming off the waitlist. (Granted, like cyprus, I haven't sent in my final confirmation yet).

my son didn't get the math diagnostic test yet - and he was accepted way back in December..he wants to wait a few days before calling or emailing..maybe they're not sending out the emails in one huge mass to avoid being marked as spam.

Yes, I suspect they might be staggering it.

Ok, I'll wait a few days. Not that I'd take another test before school is out anyway...
(And just for reference, I was not accepted off the waitlist.)

When do you have to have the test done by? I know my son would really like a bit of a break..he's just finished his math finals at UCB and soon he'll be having finals at his high school..ahh I guess there is no rest for the wicked! :)

The email says they have to receive it in their office by June 16.

!!! I better get mine soon then lol.

ok I know this doesn't quite belong here but I didn't want to create a new topic for a one word answer. Is there a physics placement exam (to be able to bypas the simple stuff like the math one) or is there just one to place out of the first classes?

Try looking here:

I got my packet in the mail today... w00t!
Although there's no English essay, so I'm assuming that comes later?

i got emailed about the english.. it said they were going to give us a reading next week i think and then we have to write an essay on it if i remember right
