Why am I not getting any of these emails? :-/

I'm not either :(

I got the math and no english...

? -Oren

The information for the math placement exam is also in the new student information packet, which I think everyone will receive in the mail pretty soon. CzarDerivative, I still have yet to receive the English too, and it's not in the packet. I'm sure everyone will get the materials well before they're due.

Just thought I'd let you know that my son emailed the math department today about the calculus diagnostic test which he hadn't received. They said thatfor when they originally emailed him the info for the Calculus Diagnostic test for prefrosh, the email bounced back. They resent the info today. So if you haven't gotten an email with the Calculus Diagnostic test info you probably should send an email to Caltech & ask them why. (the email address is in the big packet of stuff sent to prefrosh last week).

I got the math one today via email. Thanks Oaklandmom!

Score one for the Writing Center! The letter said they are sending the info by both hard copy and by e-mail. Students who don't receive the e-mail are advised to contact both the Writing Center and UG Admissions to resolve the problem. That's a very common sense approach to learning whether e-mail addresses are valid.

I sent them an email a few days ago and they still haven't replied.

halfthelaw,
who did you send your email to? My son emailed specific people regarding both the calculus and chemistry tests as he had questions on both. They replied within a half hour (the chemistry person replied in about 30 seconds). Let me know if you need the email addresses and I'll ask my son who he sent them to.

I sent them to both the general ugadmissions address and my regional advisor Ray Prado. Responsive email addresses would be appreciated :-)

Ray is very interesting... I think that he somehow doesn't get some of the emails? Let me give an example, I sent him an email. A week later I called him and found out that he didn't get it. But then, I sent him another email a few weeks later and he responded in minutes.

I would suggest just calling him. He's very very nice and helpful.

Do I need to be calling about this stuff too? So Far, I've only recieved teh math diagnostic via email.

LizzardFire,
I'd suggest calling or emailing about the English test. The reading material will be out either 5/30 or 5/31 and then the actual writing assignment will be out on June 1 or 2 and is due by June 5. (Those dates are just from memory so they might be off a little..) but I do know its that weekend that you have to write the essay..my son's going to be traveling to Las Vegas that weekend for ARML and he's trying to figure out how he's going to squeeze it in considering he'll be on the bus for hours (the SF Bay Area team is traveling to Las Vegas by bus) and then busy doing ARML.
Let me know if you need the email or phone number of who to contact at Caltech & I'll find it.

I would greatly appreciate that contact information Oaklandmom. Thank you.

Lizzardfire - the info says you must register for the English exam before Monday, May 29 at noon PDT. The reading material will be posted by Tuesday at 9 AM PDT, the writing assignment on June 2 at 9 AM PDT. The assignment must be submitted on-line by June 5 at 9 AM PDT. If you have not received the letter or the e-mail, write to waft at caltech dot edu.

does anyone know if the writting assigment can be post poned a week for anyone? Like I am going to Hawaii on the 2ed and coming back the 9th and will not have a computer or internet to submit it. I guess if there is no way to get around it I will have to do my best to find internet somewhere to submit.

The letter from Caltech says that if you can't do it to turn in on June 5, then "you will be required to write a makeup essay during orientation week." & don't forget you have to preregister by May 29 at noon PDT if you want to do the essay in June 2-5.

Take the essay in the electronic form. It's supposedly a heckuvalot easier, because you can have as long as you like to work on the essay, as opposed to being under a time limit.

What topics are covered by the Math tests? (Assuming answering isn't an honor code violation.)

One is the Calculus Diagnostic test, which is supposed to test Calc BC knowledge. the others are more advanced placement tests.

Anyone knows the minimal scores one needs to get in order to place out of these courses?
