Math/Econ or Math/Political Science?

I hope to either attend law school or pursue graduate studies in political science sometime after my undergrad. I'm pretty set on doing a math major with a stats concentration (or a stats major if my school offers it) with either econ or poli sci, but I can't seem to decide which. (The stats undergrad would be great for any type of social science research.) The risk with doing a poli sci major is that if I don't go to law or graduate school for whatever reason, I'll basically be stuck with it, whereas with econ I'll have better job prospects.

But political science is my passion and I know I would be able to excel in it. My interest in poli sci is for the real thing, not just an "interest in politics."

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Any math major will have good job prospects, although math/econ would probably be better. Based on what you’ve said, I’d say go for math/poli-sci, because you seem to like it more. If it doesn’t work out with law school or Ph.D, you are still a math major. You could go into some form of applied math, and there are a lot of options. I’m a math/econ major, and a lot of the econ is theoretical; some of it is good, but it’s really the math part that’s immediately useful for industry. So I would say don’t worry about your job prospects as long as you actually go with the math or stats.
