Math for Junior and Senior Year

Thanks.
I think it matters in case OP’s daughter is interested (or not.)
Many colleges will have 28-30 as their top25% threshold. That’s why I’m not especially worried. However if OP’s daughter is interested in Reed, Skidmore, Macalester… Then it gets much dicier and higher scores become important.

Thank you everyone for your comments! Your advice will help us weigh this decision. ACT prep is planned to start August/September. The 28-30 is just my estimate of where she might end up. She’s come in at 26 from school-administered practice ACTs without any test prep, so I hope she can gain 2-4 points with tutoring and practice. We have someone local, but if you have a favorite book or online prep resource, I’d like to hear about it. Thanks again!

@js2001 I’m glad that you find this discussion helpful. My kids weren’t into test prep. My son did zero prep for the exams but had experience from taking the SAT a couple of times for the Midwest Talent Search. He got very high scores. My daughter also did zero test prep but didn’t participate in talent searches or take early exams. In her senior year she got decent scores, but since she was applying to art schools it was her portfolio that mattered most. That is what she spent most of her time on in preparing her college applications. However, some years later – after she’d been in the labor force for a few years – she decided she wanted an MBA (to add to her BFA in industrial design). She took a self-study Princeton Review course, as well as a college-level math course. When she took the GMAT exam (for business school) she did well enough to gain admission to a top 10 business school. Prep and practice really mattered. But it was self-prep.

Do the shark tank class. What is the other class that is important to her? I vote for her taking the classes that really interest her. Believe me, colleges will understand (PM’ing you).

She-and you- should look at this list of test-optional schools. They look at the whole person and either deemphasize or don’t require scores. (For merit aid many do want scores). This list includes many tippy top schools and many other great ones too. You are NOT penalized by these schools for not submitting scores if they are test-optional, I promise.

With a high GPA and doing so many AP classes, do you know why her ACT is lowish? Has she taken it only once? Or does she have test anxiety?

She would seem to be a perfect applicant for that list of test-optional schools

PM"ed you but I missed your last post while writing mine  It seems she hasn’t taken any tests yet.
