Math Iic Discussion Thread

This question seemed a bit convoluted to me...something that ought to have been on an AP exam and not an SAT.

sin A=x^2 What is sin 2A?

I ended up getting (2x^2)((1-x^4)^.5) but used calculus to do so (supposedly not required).

Also, the problem that asked what the maximum value of the product of 2-sin x and 3+cos 5 x could not possibly be solved (to my knowledge) without either: (a) a graphing calculator or (b) niggling trigonometric derivitives...

Oh and also...how are people predicting there scores? Is there a chart based on raw score/scale score, roughly? I would like to see this chart.

Ouch. That seems right Chandra. Scores are being predicted based on past conversion tables. There is one here, though not official. It's close though:

yay looks like i got everything right so far...BUT...

what was the answer for the amount of arrangements of five different things in groups of threes and fours? and what was the answer where a^2 + b^2 = 12.85 and ab =5.85, find (a+b)^2? the latter was the only one i skipped.

15 and 24.55, respectively.

umm (a+b)^2 = a^2 + 2ab + b^2 so just plug in i guess

Koax: do you remember the letter answer(a, ,b, c, d, e) for number 50?

I want to say b... Such a damned bloody question. Fortunately it was the only one with 2x^2 as a numerator, so it was possible to make an educated guess.

I think the answer Koax gave for 50 was A.

Skipped 10+ and not expecting a good score at all.

Does anyone know a technique for solving the trigonometric product question besides graphing it on a calculator (I lost my calculator eons ago and had to use a scientific calculator. It was the only question I omitted)

OH! I love, love, love this chart. I don't know how accurate it is...but if I omitted 13, and say, got 8 wrong (I have no Idea how many I got wrong). That's a 650, I think! I'm ok with that!

Also, what was the question for 50?

lol my friend took it w/o a calculator and he skipped like 10

i left bout 8 questions.. including the man and woman distance thingy and that intersection of planes question.
i got i/pi for some question any one remember that??.. also got 37.5 for taht cylinder question.. and even 3/20 for that car probability thingy.. can any1tell if these r rite..?

Your friend is a lackwit. This really irks me! The bloody test description says that you needn't necessarily use a graphing calculator.

also is that sq.root of t and t question a part of a parabola..??

Definitely

"i got i/pi for some question any one remember that??.. also got 37.5 for taht cylinder question.. and even 3/20 for that car probability thingy.. can any1tell if these r rite..?"

1/pi is right (frequency = 1/period, period=pi), 37.5 is right, and for the car one, I don't remember... I think I put 3/10.

umm...i got 30 for the cylinder thingy...

thanks nervous... 3/10.. how???
