Any ideas for schools where you can major in math or science without having to take a huge number of English or Social Studies classes as part of a core curriculum or distribution requirements?

PLAN test results are in and my son's strengths and weaknesses are clear. While he had respectable scores across the board, math and science scores were at the top, while English/Reading scores were just good. Not sure he could get into Brown or Amherst with the verbal skills I am seeing right now.

Any of the major universities will provide your child with plenty of math/science TAs who barely speak English.

Just kidding. How old is your student? My daughter always said she wanted to go to MIT so she could just focus on the easy stuff....but she ended up at a LAC, and loves it. Attitudes change, as do aptitudes. She even came to love Shakespeare by the time she graduated HS.

My son is only a sophomore, so he does have plenty of time to change his mind. Since he hasn't really nailed down a major, I'd like to see him at a university with many choices including an engineering and business school.

He may be spending his junior year in Germany, so we are feeling a little premature need to visit some schools before he leaves. Otherwise, he'll get back and need to immediately start his applications without having had much chance to explore his options.

Yep, it's always good to ignore subjects like English just because you didn't do well in them on the PLAN...I guess it's better than going to a school with a strong core where, God forbid, you might get a B- while improving your English.
