I'm also curious about what is going on with some of the other top 10 schools like Caltech.

My friend heard back (either unfavorably or favorably) from: UCLA, Harvard, Princeton, Berkeley so far. I think waiting on MIT, Stanford, Caltech.

Damn, got rejected from UCLA this morning. Now I'm only waiting to hear back from San Diego, Duke and Brown before I formally accept Austin's offer.

Yup, I got an acceptance! But I got into a few other schools that I like better, so I'll probably turn it down soon. At least someone else will get an offer soon :)

Brown, you don't say? All things considered, I suppose you should thank people, like SBUMathgrad, who told you that it was foolish to apply to just these schools?

It's never bad advice to apply to a safety school, I never implied he wasn't good enough to get into these schools, but you never know what can happen. And the fact of the matter is, it is foolish, admissions isn't an exact science and it is hard to predict. I stick by my advice and what I said.

I think usually when you receive an email and it doesn't say "Welcome to ..." or "Congratulations ...." you know it's a reject. For me, whenever I see check website, I feel like it's bad news. Just my opinion.

Good luck with San Diego and other schools Fetton!

I also advised HT2010 to apply to safety schools. He obviously didn't need them, but I agree with SBU, it's still good advice.

HT2010 - We know you had stellar grades and GRE scores, but that alone can't get you into those top programs. Do you mind sharing what you think stood out in your application?

jd124, it turns out that I got rejected from 2 schools on the above list (with the exception of Columbia, which I haven't heard from), so I guess I didn't really need Brown anyways.

Cookiemom, I have no idea what stood out in my application. Most grad schools are crapshoots anyways, especially at those levels. I do believe that grades and recommendations can get you very far though.

Actually things are kindof quiet because I haven't / won't have internet most of spring break :) . Just so everyone knows I was placed on the first waitlist at Dartmouth. I didn't hear anything from Rutgers when they released acceptances. I'm excited about visiting VA Tech. I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to get there. Still waiting on a lot of schools... but beach > computer so I'm out of here.
