Math placement exam scores, Math 140

Does anyone who has taken the math placement test for UMD know the minimum score you need for Math 140 (calc 1)? or how many questions you should at least get right out of 67?

If you don’t get in you can always credit-by-exam it.

@DDOuser you mean like taking calc 1 at my current community college over the summer and then having the credit transfer over to umd?

no I mean taking the calculus final exam and having your grade on that exam be your class grade. For example if you get 92% on the final exam then you get 92 in the class. https://www-math.umd.edu/advising-faq.html?id=94
btw I might end up doing this to get credit for differential equations which I am taking as a high school senior.

@DDOuser oh I see what you mean, do you think I could just take calculus 1 and 2 over the summer at my community college and have the credits transfer over and possibly be placed in calc 3 by fall? I can confirm that the calculus 1 and 2 credit at my community college (Montgomery College) does indeed transfer over to UMD due to the fact that I am transferring from Montgomery college. If i was smart at math like you then i would do the exam thing by I suck at math.

I think that would work but I don’t know for sure how transfer credits work. I think you can call umd staff for your answer.

@DDOuser Its when you take classes at a Maryland community college that the credits transfer over to UMD so that you won’t have to take the class there, If the exam doesn’t work out for you than the transfer credit might than, it costs way cheaper too

Well my parents used to work at UMD so I can get a benefit called tuition remission. That means I don’t have to pay tuition if I attend UMD classes so technically in my case UMD is cheaper than community college. Btw if the exam doesn’t work out because I failed it, that would mean I really destroyed my gpa. If I don’t score well enough on the online practice exams, then I’m not going to take the exam.

@DDOuser Wow you mr friend are very lucky! But math courses like differential equations are offered at community colleges however they are A Lot easier than the math course at UMD. I know a lot of people who failed calculus 2 at UMD and take it at Montgomery College which is much easier and they end up getting A’s and B’s and then have the calc 2 credit transfer over to maryland so they could be placed out of calc 2 to calc 3 or just be done with math. But it seems like you know what your doing so Good luck!

Good luck to you to!
