I heard that CMU had a calculus placement test in the summer for freshmen. I've never had a chance to take AP tests (not offered in my country) so I can't earn credits that way, but I think my school curriculum was more advanced than the introductory calculus courses here.
So how important is the Math placement test, and up to how many calc. courses can I one bypass?

ermm...I think that the placement test is to check that they should give you AP credit, though probably if AP wasn't available to you, they would use it to place you anyway. They generally place you lower than you're actually capable of, and they let you skip anywhere from 1/2 to 2 semesters of math generally (I'm sure there are exceptions). Additionally, if they place you somewhere you feel you don't belong, you can request to switch up (or down) and they usually honor that.
