Math Question in Blue Book

on page 718, math question 8. the price of ground coffee beans is D dollars for 8 ounces and each ounce makes C cups of coffee. in terms of C and D, what is the dollar cost of the ground coffee beans required to make 1 cup of coffee.

I have been missing questions like this on every prep test and I'm getting annoyed. my math score is stuck at a 680 and my whole reason for retaking the SATs was to prove to myself I can get a 700 or higher on the math section. please help!

whoops, didnt know there was a sticky thread for this.

think about it logically--

price for 8 ounces is d and each ounce makes c cups so d over 8 (d/8) gives you the value of dollars per ounce and if each ounce makes c cups then if you multiply d/8 (the price for one ounce) by how many cups one ounce makes then you are given the AMOUNT OF DOLLARS FOR ONCE CUP

so i'm thinking the answer is d/8c

wow, thats easy... I think I need to stop studying. thanks sratman.

EDIT: wait, I did that process but when I got to d/8 multiplied by 1 cup C I got CD/8. where did the switch come from?

ya i think i studied too much! i've completed the whole blue book for the january test went through all my wrong math answers and then completed the whole princeton review 11 tests book and went through all my wrong answers it was intense....
