Math Question

Could someone explain how to solve this problem?

The least integer of a set of consecutive integers is -25. If the sum of these integers in 26, how many integers are in the set?

Thanks!

since you are dealing with consecutive integers the sequence is -25,-24,-23,…26 u can model this by using the equation -25+x=26. solve for x and u get 51. however this equation doesn’t account for the zero inbetween the -25,-24,…0,26. therefore u have to add one. 51+1=52 so, there are 52 integers in the set.

Well, since the sum equals 26 and the last number is negative, you are going to have to go at least to 25 (opposite of -25). Once you do that, your value has to be 0. The next number is 26, and 26 + 0 = 26. There you go. Now just count the integers however you feel comfortable.
