Is the math level you take senior year important?
Because I thought about taking math for college readiness instead of pre-calulus honors.
Take the most rigorous math course that you can do well in.
Exactly. Make sure to push yourself but don’t go for something that’s going to totally wreck your GPA and make you miserable.
Yes, take the most rigorous course load for math that you can handle. But, for example, if you took pre-calc junior year and you do not feel comfortable taking AP Calc senior year, still find a math to take. Whether it is business math or AP Stats. My GC says one of the worst things you can do is not cover your 4-5 core subjects senior year.
Take Precalculus, either Honors or Regular, unless you got less than a B in Algebra 2.
Unless your intended major does not require calculus, it is best to complete at least up to precalculus in high school, so that you are ready to take calculus in college. Even if your intended major does not require calculus, it is best to be ready for calculus in case you change your major to something that does require calculus.
Im taking pre-calc honors but got a D in algebra 2 second semester
Was the D due to lack of understanding despite talking to the teacher, getting a tutor, etc… or to lack of work?
What universities are you targeting?
It was online.
UF, FSU, USFSP, UT, UCF
You definitely need Precalculus (even regular) for UF, FSU, UCF.
USFSP and UT you could get away with statistics (what about AP stats? Does your school offer that?)
I would suggest adding a few more universities: run the NPCs on Stetson, Eckerd, Rollins, Flagler, Barry.
Beside USFSP, you should apply to USF proper as a reach, and either FAU or FIU since those are less commuter than USFSP.
What’s your GPA? For UF, you’d need 4.2-4.3. For FSU, about 4-4.1.
What about your test scores?
Be aware that all Florida Public Universities require students to take an online class and to spend one summer oncampus. Since online learning didn’t agree with you, I’d look outside of these, including both Florida privates and out of state colleges that’d be possible - if you give your stats we can suggest some.
Yea they offer ap stat. I have other colleges outside Fl. My gpa is only 3.2. And for FSU I’m applying through CARE.
So why don’t you try AP Stats or Precalculus (regular)?
It means that if you choose a major that requires some math, you may have to take precalculus and calculus in college, though.
WRT CARE = good for you. But you still need 4 years of math.
I don’t know whether they’d like AP Stats or Regular Precalc better. Perhaps you could take AP Stats AND College Readiness Math?
Ask your math teacher whether s/he thinks you can get at least a B in AP Stats, or an A- or A in Regular Precalculus, and if the combination AP Stats + College Readiness Math is permissible.
What other classes do you have?
Typically, you’d need one full unit each of English, Social Science, Science, and Foreign Language, plus math, plus perhaps an art class or a computer science class or a subject you really like.
I am a home school student, but I take all of my classes through Florida Virtual School. My ACT is a 26 but I am retaking it in October. Other schools I’m looking at our; Auburn, Hofstra, and University of Illinois -Chicago
Can you take some of your classes via dual enrollment at a community college? This way you would have access to an actual teacher who’d answer your questions face to face, classmates with whom to study, etc.
Beware that if you’re considered in-state in Florida, you will have the out of state price surcharge at UI-Chicago and Auburn. For your stats, if you want to go to Chicago, you have Lake Forest, DePaul, Loyola, and Roosevelt.
I could havebeen I didnt sign up in time.
For dual enrollment
See when the next deadline is and DO SIGN UP. Then enter the classes for 2nd semester (or 2nd quarter or Winter >Term or whatever it’s called where you are - the commonapp is pretty flexible) on your commonapp list. It’ll show an attempt at increased rigor for the end of senior year, at least., always appreciated.
Alright thanks.
I am signing up for Dual enrollment, but I cant start till January(second semester)
