Can both levels of the math subject tests count toward the total of 3? I have taken math I and II, and chemistry. I know it is not ideal but will I automatically be disregarded because of this?

Here's my take.

The subject tests are there to show the adcoms what you know in different subjects. I don't know if you'll be immediately disregarded, but taking two math subject tests add little to your application. The point of your application, after all, is to allow the adcom to get to know you.

I have a daughter who is going to apply to Princeton. She wants to show her area of learning and so she has taken 4 SAT2 tests. Spanish (800) because she has done very well in 6 years of Spanish. English Literature (750) because she likes to read. Chinese (just took) because she is Chinese American and has gone to Chinese school for many years. Biology (just took) because she wants to major in NEUROSCIENCES and wants to show her mastery of that area.

It is not wise to have the different levels of the same subject but the only advise I can give you is based on my daughter taking Biology M test . She felt that the questions on the test were not reflected in either any of the various prep books she purchased to study or the sample test on the COLLEGE BOARD site. She is going to take E test this coming December in an effort to show that she has mastered biology.

Good luck.

From what my counselor told me, taking both math SAT2's won't help your application and could even hurt it, if they ask for 3 and you give them two from what is basically the same subject.

But Biology M and Biology E don't count as a different tests, do they?
