Today I got my scores for the June SAT and I got 580 reading 780 math and 640 writing. Is there something wrong with me since I have such a big gap in reading in math or is this normal. I just suck so much at reading there has to be a way to master it like I mastered math, I just dont know it yet. Feedback plz

Math scores are generally higher for most people, but that big of a gap might lead colleges to think that you aren't well-rounded. Verbal isn't hard, you just have to memorize a lot of SAT words. Take some practice verbal sections so you can work on your critical reading, too. I would definately retake it if I were you.

I'm almost just like you my friend. I got a 640 reading, 800 math, and 660 writing the first time I took my SAT's. But then I retook it and got a 760 reading, 760 math, and 610 writing. Despite what people say about memorizing vocab, I personally just dont find it very effective anymore. I find that your time is better spent working on your reading comprehension. I also find that sometimes it depends on the passages you have to read; some are just easier to understand than others. Just do practice reading sections and you'll be fine.

Me2
620 reading 760 math 640 writing

I had a big gap as well. In January I got. CR-640, M-800, W-680, then I retook it in June and go CR-700, M-720, W-690. I wasn't particulary happy about the big hit in math, but my composite of 1500(2190) is fine for me. I knew that 800 was a fluke for me. Try and get your math and cr within 100 pts.

Lol I had the opposite problem. Nice CR and Writing (800 and 760 respectivly) but an awful Math score (640)...
I thought the best way to prepare for the reading was not to memorize vocabulary (Waste of time) but rather to just sit down with an SAT prep book and work through a bunch of the reading passages on the practice tests. After a while you get the hang of it :)

i have the biggest gap here =(

cr 460, math 780, w 580

I have beat you alll. =(.

CR 380 Math 720 Writing 560

yeah...same gap
570r/660w/720m

opposite...730 writing and reading, 640 math. hey let's all combine brains.

seriously though...how do you guys get so high in math?

I've got the same situtation with the reversed scores, 800 cr, 710 writing, but a 680 in math :/. And yet, I just got a 790 on the Math IIC. I just dont get it.

rizman i know what happened same with me, sat 1 math is bs complete no math brain at all, simple crap like arithmitic and geometry people learn in middle school, so what does sat do, oh they give you bs question's that test your speed, and really in some way how fast you reason, because it sometimes takes a while to understand what they are talking about. plus sat math just tries and pulls tricks on you.

Sat 2 bigger curve, and more math instead of bs questions, more like your math class especially if you just took algebra 2 or pre-calc

Hope this help's Great Critical reading by the way! That's my ****Y scores.

That is so true. Why does SAT1 Math test only basic "arithmetic and geometry people learn in middle school," while SAT1 CR tests extremely hard words even those that challenges college students? This is so unfair for me and a lot of people who excel in math. Darn!

...you could say the same about how the critical reading is SO UNFAIR to a lot of people who excel in reading. "Darn!"

i dont know i just find the math pretty easy but the reading hard to pick the "right" answer

My son got an 800 in CR, 800 writing but 690 math. He isn't sure if he should retake it to maybe improve the math since you never know if the cr and writing will go down. He didn't take math on the SATII, but might in the Fall. His SAT IIs were 800 us history, 790 bio E, and 780 world history. If he does the mathIIC and does well maybe it will offset the SAT I.

there is nothing shameful about a 2290!

But do you think that it matters that he didn't break 700 for math even though he is going in as a history major?

He is going in as a history major... what does math have to do with it? I think adcoms would understand.
