I am a math and physics major. Besides doing a lot of problems, I am wondering if anyone knows where I can get access to trial or free math, engineering and physics software I can learn from and play around with.

check out Octave....matlab clone for free

Just buy a MATLAB^2007 student version....it's like 500$ or if money's tight, borrow a CD from your friend for a couple of hours ;)

Buy? $500? ...

Get Mathematica 5.2 the full editon (not students) for free at any torrent site just like torrentspy.com or piratebay.org

Maple isn't bad either. All math software is going to be fairly expensive.

Matlab student version is 99$. You have to pay more for the toolboxes though.

Your school doesnt have license for it. If they are on school computers, you can probably get it on your computer for free. Matlab>Maple except for maple's being able to carry out digits symbolically and much better precision.

I'm partial to scilab myself as there are functions for just about every common thing and its similar to mathlab. It's free at http://www.scilab.org/
