Does anyone know anything about getting a major in mathematics or a specific strand of mathematics? I am very interested in the topic, but not one of those super genius kids competing in the IMO or anything. This might have belonged in the engineering major or science major section but I just want to know some information about math majors as I am currently a sophomore and envision nothing more than a career in mathematics.....

What do you mean by a career in math?
Research/academia (In which case you’ll get a PhD)? Or industry?

Most people in math major take the same math (applied math) courses: Pre.Calc & Trig., Calc.1-3 at minimum. Later you can decide from 4 areas: continue in applied math, statistics, actuarial science, or theoretical math. Applied math is practical, Statistics you can do data analysis (minitab etc.) & SAS programming, Actuarial science is good for actuary exams if offered, Theoretical is for making or improving existing formulas. Often math majors are located in the college of science. My first BA is in Accounting but am starting my next degree in applied mathematics.
