Anybody here apply for MathROOTS @ MIT for this summer?
If so, what were your stats?
I applied! You mean like AMC’s or what?
GPA/SAT/ECs/ACT
bump
GPA 3.97, AMC 10 132, AMC 12 127.5, AIME 9. I don’t think there was a spot for ECs tho right? Also I didn’t get to put my SAT scores because they didn’t arrive in time.
Does anyone know (approximately) how many people will be accepted? I really hope the acceptance rate is higher than that of MITES and similarly competitive programs.
Do any of you know whether your math teacher was contacted? The application mentioned that they will contact the math teacher of strong applicants, and I am concerned since my math teacher told me he hasn’t received an email from them.
GPA 4.0, No AMC/AIME because I’m studying abroad, 2170 SAT, 760 Math
Main EC is competitive programming, which is besties with math and problem solving, but no actual math contest experience. International Olympiad in Informatics Bronze medalist and I mentioned it in one of the essays.
I don’t think the acceptance rate will be that low, at least this year. It’s the program’s first year, so it probably doesn’t even have that many people applying to it.
i applied with a 34act math score and 71 psat math score…
I mentioned in the application that I am in Calc BC as a junior…
lol the program app didnt even ask for gpa and …
it asked for (if applicable):amc, aime, psat math score, sat math score, and act math score
i emailed math roots Ive been emailing them questions and here are their responses
the first email:April 16
Hi Landon,
Good to hear from you. We will be releasing decisions in mid-April (roughly another 7 days or so). You will receive an email with our decision.
Thanks so much for reaching out. If you have more questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me again.
Best,
Quinton McArthur(Head of Admissions at MathRoots)
then i asked
Sorry to bother you again…,
…One more thing my teacher says she hasn’t been contacted yet…Does that mean I’ve been rejected??? I have read on some forums that only teachers of ‘strong’ math students are called… Also, about how many kids will be accepted to attend the camp ,like 50-100??? Sorry for my slight attitude of impatience, I’m just so nervous… I’d really, really like to attend
then he said,
Hi Landon,
We have not contacted any teachers yet. We are in the process of contacting a few guidance counselors and teachers this week to gain more insight into a few of the applicants. Our intention is to release admission decisions this week. The MathROOTS program will have 20 students who will be selected for the program.
If you have more questions, you can always ask. I have no problem answering questions.
then i said
I saw my guidance counselour today and she said she got your transcript request and sent mine within an hour… Well, I’m looking forward to the acceptance(Hopefully I was competitive…) and meeting at your camp in the summer… Right now would be the perfect time…
Thanks for the last time(Before meeting you),
Landon
then he said:
We have requested transcripts from a group of students who we are considering for the program. Not all students whose transcripts have been requested will be admitted to the MathROOTS program. No decisions about participation have be made as of yet.
We will be looking at grade performance and calling teachers for some students before we make final decisions about who will be a part of the program.
Best wishes,
Quinton McArthur
The last correspondence between me and the head was yesterday so i assume their coming out tommorow… based on what he said apr 16 when he said 7 days and his following up with me + the “group” in the last email seemingly refer to the most qualified appliers…
Aw man I got rejected I hope it’s not because my counselor missed the email
I got accepted yayyyyy!!!.. To those who were rejected there are many more equal if not better programs that you can get into and this is not the be all end all
Congrats @yoyo27 ! I’ll be messaging you later in the summer to ask how it was, the program looks really cool. I did the PAMO Project program (the one in the video on the mathroots website) and it was awesome!
srsly cool good luck with the program(s) you attend(I saw on your posts you got accepted to a few so Congrats!!!)
anyhow I feel like yours was probs due to your gc not responding quickly enough with transcript though I cant be sure…) I was hoping to meet you and other CCers there… but owell who knows maybe i’ll see you on campus while your at Mites E2… I’ll stay in contact
My guidance counselor didn’t get an email, which is good I guess cause it means that the email wasn’t the reason I got rejected. Unfortunately Mathroots and E2 don’t coincide
I got in with a 36 act, 80 on PSAT math, 225 overall, 94.5 AMC (didn’t make aime )
