May 1 deadline is just around the corner!

Its almost here!! And we have just realized that we have to mail the check, yikes!! How come I did not know this? I naturally assumed it will be online..........this takes away those extra few days of deliberation we were looking forward towards the end. Hoping son would change his mind ;)

Yes, I’ve been thinking about this, too. Lucky for me, my favorite school for D is one that has online payment… To be fair, I’d better check the other choices.

I didn’t know that either.

Oh, I better check also. I always assumed that everything is online.

My son still has not decided yet.

I think it just has to be postmarked by 5/1 but that may just be my son’s school.

Yup, I do think that they will be ok if it is postmarked by May 1. Please check the websites to make sure.

USC and Miami are online, I have checked.

My D’s college doesn’t even want a deposit. Somehow, that makes me uneasy. Doesn’t feel like a real transaction.

One of my daughter’s didn’t mention a deposit either, just had to check you were coming online, it said no deposit needed. I was grateful since I had to send her sister’s.

Wait, we have to mail checks? Like, in the mail? I’m glad you said that because I also assumed it would be an online payment.

I think at all of the schools that accepted my son it’s mail only. Accepting online payment seems to be one of those things that really taxes college IT departments.

And at least a couple of the acceptance packages specified that they need to have the check in hand by May 1. So do be careful to check. (Of course May 1 is a Saturday this year, so the de facto deadline is probably May 3.)

We were able to pay by credit card, online.

Credit card online! :)

WashU STL is not online, thats how I got nervous and we are abroad.

Please post your college names here so we can raise a flag for others.

Also, colleges have been notified that the volcano in Iceland did affect some mail to/from overseas applicants. It’s possible that there will be a bit of leeway in that case. You might want to check to see that they received the check, or at least know it is on the way.

Northwestern accepts deposits online for tuition and housing. Interestingly, while Visa is an acceptable payment method for the deposit, it is not for future payments (which I wouldn’t want to use anyway because it costs an addition 2.75% so they must be having us pay the discount rate that most businesses normally absorb as a cost of doing business … but it’s okay since we can set up electronic transfer from our checking account, if desired.)
