I attended the Open House for admitted students and, even though my daughter and I had been to Vassar twice before, it was an eye opening experience. Here is what I learned:

The students are truly individuals in terms of diversity (not referring to geography, ethnic groups or categories like that) but in terms in thoughts and opinions. This may sound trivial but, unlike other school tours, out of 30+ students in the first tour, not ONE had the same footwear! Sneakers (designer and no-name;) flip flops (various colors and styles; ) shoes (one Oxford, one loafers, the rest non-descript); low and high boots, etc.

The one apparant commonality was excellence in writing ability. Even the hard core future math majors had this (including 2 who wrote essays about how equations and concrete numbers influenced their lives!).

They were down to earth and not snobbish. At the bookstore, I overheard many ask their parents to borrow money for hoodies, etc. they had not expected to buy and indicated when they would repay the borrowing.
