May 2009 SAT Discussion

So... 35 more days. How are you coming along? What/How are you studying? Any question/comments? What have you been scoring?

I'm hoping for 2200+ as a sophomore but the reality is looking to be 1900-2100. Trying to focus on SAT math (which I suck at) and vocab.. you?

I’m writing on May 2 too…I’m aiming at 2100+.So far,I’ve been using the Official SAT study guide,Princeton Review and Barron’s for vocab…no tutors or anything…so,far I’m averaging 1900.I always score 750+ in Math, but Writing and CR range at about 550-650.So,I desperately need to improve in English.

I’m stuck between taking this or the Subject Tests in May. If I do take I’m going for a 1450+; my CR is great but my math needs major work haha.

smart chap ,if you score 750 on M.it is easy to improve your WR to 750 and your CR to 600.This results in 2100 ;]

Hm…yeah…will have to work on that:)

I’m trying to get all my scores into the 700+ range… math is especially hard for me. I know (most of) the material, but I make careless errors, a lot of which is simple arithmetic errors >.<

What is the May curve usually like?

-1 790
-2 760
-3 740/
-4 720/710
-5 700

is the May SAT easier than the other ones ?

questions or Points?

It all depends on the test. There’s no difficulty trend based on month – it just depends on how hard the questions turned out!

My friend was saying that if the majority of people do badly on the SAT,then they usually increase the scores of everyone. Is this true ?

Wrong. Totally and utterly wrong. The curves are pre-determined by the difficulty of the questions; if all morons took the May SAT or if all geniuses took it, it wouldn’t matter. You’d get the same score.

When CR7_ManUtd was explaining the curves was he referring to points or just single problems.

Just got an 800 on CR!!! But 650 on Math… :(

@Arachnotron

Really, how do they determine the difficulty of the questions if they don’t take into consideration the percent of test takers to get the question correct.

I was under the impression that the scores are adjusted after all of the raw scores have been calculated in order to assure a similar score distribution for all tests.

@ mulberrypie

What does that mean u just got an 800 CR and 650 on Math. How would u know yet?

She probably took a practice test.

@4.0 The experimental sections are used to determine how smart the particular testing group was so they can make sure that does not affect the curves.

Yes, I took a practice test lol…

^I was under the impression that the experimental section is used for research for future tests, not how smart that testing group was…
