June 6 2009 SAT I Thread

The June SAT is right around the corner and I'm ready to raise my SAT I scores..all SAT taking in June belongs here

Ugh, same.

I am slowly but surely studying. God, I can’t wait for this weekend. HELLO PRACTICE TESTS.

What is your current score and what do you want to raise it to?

I have a 1210 and I want to raise it to 1300…what about you?

1190, and same, going for a 1300.

Just trying to get Math up to 700 and CR up to 600. (If I can higher, I’ll be soo happy.)

yea I was a little disappointed in Math with a 640 because I thought I was good in Math…lol so I need upper 600s and at least 600 in reading.

HAHA. I scored a 640 in Math, too! And, I was kind of shocked I scored that. I didn’t really prep much for it. But Math is really easy to study. Just focus on your weak points.

However, CR can’t be aced without some serious ADD pills.

why don’t you guys count the writing section? writing is important too, ya know … not just mathematics and CR

I got a 1380 790 math 590 reading:( i hope my scores go up

Oh and i got 700 in writing i only got a 9 on the essay :(

You should improve your WR to about 760 and CR to at least 650 and you should be fine.

Ill be taking it and am uber-nervous. Math I know will give me some trouble. :(

I did HORRIBLE on my essay in March and got a 6. =[ My goal: at LEAST an 8 on the essay and raise my score 150 points.

I’m not taking them til october…that way i get more time to study. i had a 2100 and my goals a 2300

wow it’s great that you guys encouraged each other to ace better
i’ve just taken the may SAT don’t know the score yet but i suppose it’ll be at least 1900…

I have a to embarrassed to say My goal is for a 1,200+

After a lot of studying I have made an 80 point jump in CR, and I still have plenty of practice test. Mainly vocab throws me off. Math I want a 600 minimum, I will just have to learn some Geometry dealing with triangles and other things that I wrote on a paper. As for writing, the last time I got an 8 and wrote only one page. Next time I’m sure I can get a double digit. I only miss 3-6 questions each time on that section (I kind of want a 700+ on writing).

I think I can pull it off. =)

Including writing, I am aiming for a 1900-2000.

Count me in :).

It’s the first SAT I’m doing.

My main concern is the critical reading section,
what’s a better strategy

1) reading the whole thing first and then doing the questions
OR
2) skim through questions first and underline the lines in the passage that the questions refer to and when you encounter those lines when you’re reading, you go straight to the questions…? ( If you know what I mean [kind of a weird strategy, this is what I’m CURRENTLY using]).

If there are any other strategies, please feel free to post them

I’m glad that you guys are all part of my life lol

Before I recommend skimming. I should not be giving such suggestions. Honestly, you should try both. Before I thought skimming was for me, but recently I had a drastic increase in the amount of questions I got right when I read the whole thing.

Ugh. I just took a practice exam. I scored a 640 on Math. Absolutely NO improvement. Lame.

But I improved sentence completions. 14/19 -> 16/19. Not bad.

I want to improve to a 2300 (!!)
My March SAT was 800 M, 620 CR, 610 Wr (2030)
And in May I took my subject tests.

I’ve been taking classes and so far my score has jumped up about ~170 points to a 2200. (800 M, 670 CR, 730 Wr)

And I’m aiming for the 2300. 800 M, 730 CR, 770 Wr
The only problem with CR for me is the vocab sentence completions. On the SAT I only got 58% of those questions right and on the passages I got ~85%. Now I’m still doing bad on the sentence completions (70% ish) and doing well on the passages (95%)
And my writing should jump up a lot, I just need to review my grammar rules that I learned for the PSAT (Got a 68 on it) and I’m pretty confident that I can get an 11 or 12 on the essay.

and opK - read the questions and find out what they are truly asking you to do, do that for like the first 5 or so, and then read the first paragraph. Then you can answer the first few questions that relate to the first paragraph, but be looking for what you underline in the question. For example:

In lines 22-29, Pastier’s basic objection to the museum’s design is that…

Then as you read just look for what he objects to and more spefically what he DOESN’T object to (eliminate all answers before you select yours)
