May 2010 Math SAT Thread

I elaborated on this list from page 3 for some of the questions. Feel free to add greater detail to other questions. i fixed the one with the quadrilateral. He put 91 but i think people were agreeing on 105.

opps double srry.

can anyone explain that median question with graph plz??
the answer was 26… but i don’t get that question :(

72 was the answer to the angle thing
where y=2x and w=2y
and x+ 3x+y+w=360
so x=36, and y=72

can someone explain the median one, what were the values? and why couldnt it be 26.5

@kbbm

Are you talking about the one with the bar graph?

If this hasn’t been said already, I think the experimental Math section had the one with the tiles that were “decorative” and “plain”.

yes, i am

for the one with the bar graph, all i remember is that the first bar had 40, then 50, then 40, then 30, and the last one had 10
4 5 4 3 1
if you find the median, you know it’s in the group that had 50

haha i really don’t remember what the question was about…but maybe this will help…

its 26 because when you put all of the cars in order from lowest gas mileage to highest, there are 170 cars total which means the 85th car is the median. then it goes 40 cars with 25 and 50 cars with 26 which equals 90 cars. that means that the 85th car must have been in the set with 26 gas mileage. hopefully that made sense

Wait for the angle grid weren’t thy asking for x not y?

8521---- i definitely got 9531 for the this one.

Confirmation for two questions:

water question with the graph and slope, believe I put 1:04-1:08, whichever interval had the steepest slope

angle questions, believe I put 36 thinking that the question was asking for x (x,y,w question)

@sand

953*1 = 135 which is not divisible by 10.

9351 is not divisible by 10

amount of money saved: 1/4
8
2x + x squared

what question is 8 referring to?

Wasnt there one where there was a triangle that had 5 x’s and it asked for the value? was that grid in?

36 ,all you had to do was add up the 5 x’s and since the total number of degrees in a triangle is 180, divide by 5 and you get that x = 36

^^ thankie. any idea what the question was with the answer 8 as in the list?

Wongtong tong they were asking for x= not y= right?

it was the one with the huge negative slope? ^^
