I got 3 wrong answers at the math section but I got a 710, this sucks.

Okay so my late scores are out, and I totally did worse than expected, especially on math.

620 CR (saw this coming - only 2 SC’s wrong, though, down from 5 last time - pretty great for me - hopefully with DH it’ll become a 0 in June)
710 Math (2 mistakes was a 760. 3 mistakes is a 710. I wanted that 760, but I guess it doesn’t matter much as I’m aiming for an 800 next time. I have no idea where that third mistake came from though, what on earth)
790 Writing. I must say, and I know many people are going to hate me for this, but this is so disappointing. I have an 80 on the MC’s, imagine, but a 9 on the essay. I got a 10 last time. As to why, it’s beyond me. I knew I didn’t write a mindblowing essay, but it was sufficient for a 10. I’m half beating myself up, now I have to concentrate on the essay next time. I just assumed if I got an 800 I’d never have to care about it. Ugh. Would’ve had like 60 minutes next test for reflection on previous sections.

Anyone care to read the essay? I want to see if it truly deserved less than a 10.

Jimmy, don’t worry, the essay is crap and the graders suck and its so random and blah blah blah.

Yes, I hate the math curve. I always “Get” the questions…but the curve is so effing harsh!!

How can one get a score of 80 if there are only 49 MC questions??

I got an 800+800+800 = 2400 on the May make-up date, with no questions wrong, though unfortunately 11 on the essay. Fairly satisfactory, I must say (somewhat better than 238 on the PSAT). Hopefully I can similarly avoid messing up on my 7 other pending College Board results. Unfortunately, AP Spanish Language = Schrodinger’s 5 at this point.

I dislike tests. I think colleges should tap into our brains to find out how smart we are.

I got 3 math Qs wrong and ended up with a 730. Would this be considered a harsh scale in the world of SAT?

No. -2 was a 740 in March.

considering on the march test i got -3 also but a 720…no its not too harsh lol

Damn, I didn’t realize how drastically a few wrong Qs can affect your score.

Just got my May retake score back!
750- Critical Reading
800- Math
780- Writing (Essay: 10)

I’m starting to see a trend here… May 2009: 2110, November 2009: 2220, May 2010: 2330… Should I take again for a 2440?

(Oh, and out of curiosity, since I’m not an SAT guru. Does 2330 basically fit into the highest standardized test pool due to the large margin of error in the 2300’s? I mean, I know that it by no means guarantees admission into top tier schools, but is it about as good as you can do in that dimension of your application?)

PS: Thank God for tornadoes, which allowed me to retake on this date!

There is no threshold score beyond which score improvements do not afford an admissions advantage. 2330 is certainly an excellent score, however, and improving to 2400 is unlikely to turn a rejection into an acceptance.

^ I feel like that question is asked several times a day.

^ Yes, I repeatedly answer it because I want to make sure I beat to the punch any parents who intend to disseminate their fallacious view of the matter. Hopefully, my upcoming guide will serve as an initial source of information to many posters who would otherwise pose their questions.

^ Sorry about asking it… I’m just a little excited about not having to take that horrible, horrible test again…

Asked this before but no one replied:

I didn’t have much time to prepare due to extracurriculars and whatnot, but how much preparation does it take to get 2200+. That is what I am aiming for and I want to know how much preparation I would have to put in. Before the last test, I completed about 5 or 6 SATs worth of questions and I thought it was adequate. I have the feeling that that isn’t a lot, but now that I have the whole summer ahead of me I was wondering what it takes?

It varies person-to-person. Some people can score higher than 2200 on their first try with no preparation; others will never achieve that, no matter the preparation.

It’s fine lol, I was making the comment in good humor. It’s better for you to understand the truth than to be falsely indoctrinated with one of two popular misconceptions:
A. Past a certain score (2200/2250/2300 etc.), all scores are treated equal in terms of admissions
B. At a certain score (2200/2250/2300 etc.), one is basically guaranteed admission.

Lol :D. Had that not sounded slightly creepy, I would’ve agreed that that’s a great idea.

@ Jersey

So do you think it would be more foolish than not to retake for a higher score? Because I think I would most likely score sub-2330 if I did so… I don’t want to mess up the trick I have going.
