May 2010 Writing SAT Thread

@ Robo ; I said whether the company had made a profit in the last quarter of the previous year, and no error for Maria? No one was more pleased than I.

the one in the last section “more pleased than i” or “more pleasure than me”?

I got no error for Red Cross. It was weird, but it worked.

Linger - I didn’t have it, so I guess it was experimental :)

Agree with Slurpee on me/other people. And with others on honey.

I can’t believe I got the distinctively one wrong. Not to be all “but but but,” but - haha - isn’t “distinctively citrus flavor” valid? I think it was with flavor, right? Using -ly to modify an adjective and all that…

“are” was definitely the error for #29. It was talking about taste, and therefore had to be referring to the honey and not the flowers.

I remembered getting only one no error throughout the whole test, and it might have been 27. Does anyone remember what the sentence for 27 was?

@ourchance, i got (B) than me i think

For the airplane one, I was torn between “sent airplanes to the city, loaded with food and other supplies” with “sent airplanes loaded with food and other supplies to the city.” I chose the first one because I thought …to the city needed a comma before it. D:

hey! can you explain the airplane one? i vaguely remember it…
and it was: My dad insists that I get my car checked at the autoshop… right?

No, the wrong part was definitely are because honey was the subject.
And the right one was than I because than starts a clause so it’s an understood than I (verb)

Can anyone tell me what the last 3 questions were? I can’t remember if I put all D or not

AimingHigh, the second one would be correct because the first implies the city was loaded with food and other supplies which is not the case.

For airplane it was ‘sent airplanes loaded with food and other supplies to the city.’ For the other choice, food and supplies is modifying city rather than airplanes?

The mechanic/used car one was difficult.

On section 10, did anyone put “no one but me” or was it no one than I?

Ah… crap. Thanks :(

Any NE on section 10?

For mechanic / car, I got something along the lines of “My dad insists that when buying a new car, I have a reputable mechanic check it.”

For the honey one, why wasn’t it “have”

Shouldn’t it have been “has” cause honey is singular?

@coup

Same.

@ Mabs ; That’s what I put, but some people say it was ‘distinctive’ or something?
