May 2012 Critical Reading Discussion

for the little girl and gift passage, one of the last questions asked what a gift could do. did anyone put that it could have an unexpected consequence?

I said unexpected consequence only because I ruled all other options out.

Kinda random, but did you guys get 3 NE for writing.

@siddysid
yea i think. also, did u get like 3 letters in a row twice? for example aaa and ccc

I had math exp and remember the buffalo one. Does anyone know the answer to that one?

@chacha
stolid

Googled “historically.”

First result: “historically, government policy has favored urban dwellers.”

I don’t think there was an error in the sentence.

@ bear. YEP. I got 3 C’s in a row. And, I also got 3 D’s or A’s…for some reason I can’t recall which.

@lemniscate, thank god.

I can confirm that I missed 2 writing questions only. With a 10 on the essay — hopefully i get around a 770.

@siddysidsid
yessss, i freaked out when that happened but left them there. figured it’d be dumb to question an answer just for that

OK lets have a vote, for those of you who said “in particular” just type 0
for those of you who said “broadly speaking” type 1

its definitely in particular

i got in particular

was the in particular/broadly speaking in the writing section

Blbb6. I put in particular, but I can see why it doesn’t make too much sense. At the same time, I’m not convinced that Broadly Speaking is a good answer either. This dilemma is what led me to choose “in particular”.

i put stolid also, i just looked it up, it means calm and dependable

Ok lets not say “definitely” in our assertions. Just say what you put. You have no idea whether its “definitely” what you said.

In fact, “in particular” seems like a trick answer when you think about it more carefully

was this a writing question or reading?

this was a writing question

^ Writing question.

Anyways, bllb6, I think you’re right. “In particluar” appears to be the right answer at hindsight, but in context, its completely wrong.

Ah well…

Anyone know how much -2 in Writing with a 10/11 on the essay will be.

can someone describe this writing question with “in particular”? I don’t remember what it was…
