How do you think the SAT was as compared to other SAT tests?
Would the scale chart be charitable this time or not?
Any opinion on how difficult the Reading, Writing or Math section was and for which sections do you think the scale chart would be most charitable?
Note: DO NOT DISCUSS ANY QUESTIONS, JUST CURIOUS ABOUT THE DIFFICULTY
Daughter only took it once previously, but she thought the reading section was a bit easier for her this time (might just be that she knew what to expect). She also felt very good about the math, but again, that might be because she has had more time to prep). Overall, she felt positive about the test. I think the last reading section was tricker for her, but I attribute that to it being the last article and she was getting mentally fatigued.
I don’t know it that helps. Good luck! Her friends that took it for the first time thought the math was very hard.
The only report I have had so far is that the reading section was more difficult than the March test.
The march test reading section was also very hard, right? So, like was this times reading section difficulty above average?
Does this mean that the reading scale chart will be somewhat charitable as compared to other test?
The March test was one of the harder reading test of the year. My daughter and her friends took the test in March and when the results came out all of them had the same number or ever MORE reading mistakes than previous tests (Jan, Dec) and yet they got way HIGHER scores for the reading. My daughter with the same exact number of mistakes than a previous test received 50 points higher score! So the curve was extremely generous to compensate. I ll be surprised if the May test was even harder. But we will know that only when the results come out.
D18’s first crack at the SAT. She didn’t take the march test, so no comparison to make.
D18 is very good at math (near the top of BC Calc class), so her baseline may be high. She thought Math with calc was easy enough to do w/o calc. Math w/o calc was reasonably easy as well, but slightly more difficult than the math w/calc. D finished up early on math sections and had time to recheck her answers. The Math curve may be not be charitable. She felt one section of the reading was a bit more difficult than the other(s). Overall she felt the reading (non-math) sections were a bit more difficult than the College Board’s SAT practice tests.
My two cents- I received a 780 Verbal score on the March SAT, which I found very hard. I thought May’s difficulty level was even higher. Once I finished, I had some time left so I went back to check my answers and found out that quite a few had been trick questions! I caught maybe seven or eight mistakes. Very scary. Here’s hoping the curve is as good as or better than the March test, because this was the most difficult reading section that I have ever seen.
Thanks everyone for your inputs!
@precisionparadox
Thanks for the feedback. It looks like the college board is experimenting towards a harder English test or still testing the waters. My kid and her friends so far are reporting more stability in the math portion. For the last three tests the curves and the material look more even. There is variation but not as dramatic as the English.
If so, can we assume the CB will curve the May test higher than March?
@sushiritto I anticipate the May and March curves to be extremely similar. I think that May will turn out to be a bit more lenient, but that might just be wishful thinking!
