Hi - My son took the SAT test earlier today and wanted to get feedback from students and parents of those who took the
today.
He said that the reading test --especially the Fictional passage was the hardest he has seen of all the official tests he had taken (new version).
Let me know what were your experiences --both parents and kids?
My son took it today as a retake. My son agreed with your son’s assessment: my son says he has no trouble reading, but the reading section made S doubecheck several questions.
I took it today, and I thought writing/math were pretty easy, but reading was harder than usual. There were a few trick questions scattered throughout writing/math, but the reading ones were difficult to answer in my opinion compared to the practice SATs and past SAT tests.
My D also felt the reading today was the hardest she had ever taken for practice or real, harder than August. While I was surprised to hear that impression, I am even more convinced that CB is trying to make the test harder incrementally.
Son took it today. This was his 3rd time. He did well on the math the first time so he’s been focused on reading/writing. He thought math this time was pretty straight forward, he thought that there were only 2 questions that we were difficult in writing, but that reading was very tough. He thought that there were at least 5-7 questions (maybe more) that had two answers that looked equally right. I hope you all get the scores you’re looking for – good luck!
I took the SAT today and I agree. Although there really weren’t any questions that required you to know the meaning of a complex vocab word; there were really difficult non-fiction passages. Moreover, I felt like the writing was alright and the math with a calculator was alright. The reading, math no calculator, and writing are iffy for me.
if the reading was as hard as the posters above say, then won’t the curve be more generous?
From what I’ve heard and experience, the reading was significantly harder than the past official tests. I hope that it does make the curve better…
The curve should be more generous in theory and hopefully that will be the case. But, the curve is predetermined based on prior use of the questions, either on a study basis or included within forms of prior tests. The curve is not based on actual results from the November test takers. In the area of percentiles, CB has demonstrated a substantial amount of error in extrapolating small study results to actual test takers (see, e.g., 2016 percentiles predicted based on a study vs class of 2017 actual percentiles released in Sept; see also PSAT 2015 percentile drama).
i absolutely agree. every person with whom i’ve spoken agrees reading was the hardest it’s ever been. i usually do well in the reading sections of standardized tests and struggle in the math sections, but it was the opposite on saturday. i, of course, still had a few throughout the math portions i didn’t understand how to do, but the reading portion is still blowing my mind.
Scores are coming in here. S scored a 1500!
@apraxiamom Congrats!!
