May SAT 2011: CR Section

@ The question was about the “Grand theory” of the overarching meaning of the cave paintings…the historians didn’t admit that they know that.

@yoursky It’s the one about this girl who is trying to capture the feelings and emotions of characters in her movies…

it was definitely synergize/divergent

btww, sometimes i dont understand why people ask about the curve or vocab questions (granted that they arent asking for the context of the question but rather the definition)
google and dictionary.com are your best friends…

for all the people who are worryign about curves…
http://www.erikthered.com/tutor/SAT-Released-Test-Curves.pdf

The second passage said the historians/scholars were convinced on the purpose of the paintings (I believe they said it was a historical record, or something like that), which is equivalent to what the first passage defined as the Grand Theory, no?

newton: oh i knew about that but on the list it comes out in the section on the cave passage. was that just an order error?

how hard do you think the CR writing and math were?
green (easy) yellow (medium) red (hard)

“Had to do with combining Mexican and American viewpoints to create one (divergent) unique viewpoint.”

@pch340

Yeah, I remember assimilate as one of the options. For some reason, I don’t remember picking synthesize/divergent although that does make sense in the context. I feel like there was a better answer choice… but I have really bad memory lol.

^ this varies. what WE think is hard and what CB says is hard varies. my december test had the worst CR ever (i swear it was worse than this) and yet the curve wasn’t very generous at all (I think 4 wrong was 700)

I’m going to guess yellow on both, gsfan01. Maybe red on math, I got an 800 last time and this time I know I got at least a couple wrong (though maybe that’s just because I hadn’t looked at any SAT math for a month).

The “general agreement” vs. “cautious acceptance” debate (I really think “mild skepticism” is too extreme to be considered) is dependent upon the central thesis of passage 1.

If the thesis was centered on the aesthetic beauty of the cave paintings and the emotional reaction it produces in modern viewers, then it would be “general agreement”, because the author of passage 1 agrees with the last sentence of passage 2 in viewing the aesthetic/emotional value of the paintings, rather than the identity of their creators, as the most important aspect.

But if the thesis is expanded to include the concern with the identity of the painters - that is, if all that stuff about preserving a traditional society is as important to the author of passage 1 as the stuff about the artistic beauty - then “cautious acceptance” would make more sense, because he would agree with the basic idea but with some reservations, as it does not fully reflect his view.

In my opinion, this was the most subjective question on the test. It really depends on how you interpreted the passage as a whole.

in my opinion the curve shouldn’t be too bad on this one. there were a few answers that were really close

Genericana- but I think that question was in regards to the emotion provoked by the paintings? If so, “general agreement” works. Although aesthetics were not the central focus of passage 2, it did mention the undeniable response by people who look at the paintings.

That was my reasoning. (haha, reasoning test.)

Does anyone would like to tell me what the sentences were for

empathy
and
business : difficulty

dec 3 wrong was a 750 for me

So far I have missed the one about the river for sure.
The other 4 I might have missed are in debate:
the two jazz questions and the cave art questions about mild skepticism and frustration/delight

@genericana mild skepticism isn’t extremem (it’s mild Lol) but the two passages disagree with each other which is why I put skepticism

Guys, I need confirmation w/ sth !! I clearly remember that I have 1 CR section where I fill in to number 23 (I didn’t skip any q), but isn’t the CR sections always 24 - 24 - 19? If so, I’m doomed. ARGHH !!

yeah, could someone rephrase the questoin for the silicon chips one? i didnt even know difficulty/restrictions was an answer choice

and did NO ONE put “content of diversity” for the cave paintings one?

yeah my first section was until 23
my next until 25 and then 19 as my last
you are okay :)

Did anyone have the section with the animal play? was this experimental? it seemed to have harder vocab questions
